The Space Cowboy

The Space Cowboy (Chayne Hultgren) is an internationally recognised contemporary artist and world record breaking performer based in Byron Bay, Australia. Known for his large scale paintings of anthropomorphic animals, his work blends traditional portraiture with street art influences, gold leaf, and playful storytelling.

Before becoming a full time visual artist, Chayne built a global reputation as a sideshow and circus performer, setting dozens of Guinness World Records and touring internationally. That background in live performance now influences his artwork, which he describes as “frozen performances” captured on canvas.

His paintings often feature elegant animals dressed in human attire, exploring themes of identity, humour, confidence, and personal transformation. Each piece combines fine art techniques with spontaneous mark making, splashes, and happy accidents that become part of the story.

Each of his works also contain hidden augmented reality animations that spring to life when viewed through a smartphone, adding an unexpected layer of interactive magic.

Christian Nicolson

Christian Nicolson (b. 1971) is a New Zealand multidisciplinary artist whose work explores nostalgia, history, and the natural world through bold colour, expressive mark making, and playful storytelling.

Influenced by his coastal upbringing in the 1980s, his practice blends humour, conceptual ideas, and personal memory. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and screen printing, Nicolson’s work often reflects themes of childhood, identity, sci fi, and the passage of time.

Originally trained as a designer, he left the world of art directing and commercial design to pursue a full time art practice more than twenty years ago. Since then his work has been widely exhibited and collected across New Zealand and internationally in both public and private collections.

Kitsune Moon

Kitsune Moon is the artistic practice of Byron Bay based artist and designer Jason Moon. Through sculpture, collectible furniture, and immersive objects, his work blends mysticism, craftsmanship, and conceptual storytelling into pieces that feel both symbolic and tactile.

Drawing inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi, European craft traditions, and the raw landscapes of Australia, Moon’s work explores themes of imperfection, transformation, and the quiet beauty found in natural materials.

Working primarily with reclaimed and repurposed elements, he creates pieces that feel both ancient and contemporary. Each work invites viewers to slow down, reconnect with meaning and spirit, and rediscover the emotional presence that objects can hold in our lives.
